I am So Happy I am Finally Doing This!

Two months go, during the 4th of July weekend, i met a woman who would change my life forever. My Dear Husband's (DH) long time friend visited us with his family, and that's how i met his wife, whom i will call Lily. Lily, a 30-something highly educated, working mother of two young boys, looked exceptionally trim, lean and fit (super sexy too i must add!). My immediate assumption (sprinkled with a touch of judgement ) was that she was probably one of those "lucky" women who had never struggled with being overweight at any time in her life. Until Lily told me that just two years ago, she was 65 lbs heavier, and that she had lost it all through exercise, especially running, and better nutritional choices! I even saw pictures of her "former heavy self", in which she looked nothing like her "current trim self"!

I was impressed, and challenged at the same time. But more than anything else, i was inspired. After all, i was a 30-something, highly educated, working mother of three beautiful young girls, and interestingly, Lily's "former heavy self" looked a lot like my "current heavy self"; which meant that for me to achieve a healthy weight range, i needed to lose roughly 50 lbs ( Oh boy)!

Now, don't get me wrong. Even before i met Lily, I already knew that I needed to lose weight. But for more than one reason (or excuses!), which i will be sharing in this blog, i simply had not gotten down to it. So, by the end of that July 4th weekend, i had made some resolutions, the most drastic of which being that I WOULD START RUNNING for weight loss! You have to keep in mind that i had never run actively and consistently before, either recreationally or competitively.

On July 5th 2011, my very supportive DH accompanied me to TrakShak to purchase my first pair of  "proper" running shoes (cost many $$$, but all worth it), and on July 6th, at 5.30 a.m., i started my running journey! "Run Baby J! Run!" has been my secret, sentimental mantra whenever i am running out of gas and feeling like throwing in the towel.

So far, my running journey has  been liberating, exciting, excruciating, revealing, cleansing, and so much more, and it's one that i intend to stay on for a very long time to come, for as long as i can move my feet. It has become a lifestyle. This blog is part of my journey, for in here, i intend to share my struggles, my challenges, my inspirations, my motivations, my joy, my resources, my rewards, my temptations, my emotions, my ups and downs, and how i manage to overcome and keep moving on towards realizing a rewarding, healthier and happier lifestyle. Like the title says, i am so happy that i have finally gotten round to doing this!

Until next time,
Yours truly,
Baby J.
